Boating Classes

The Public Education classes offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary are listed and described in detail on the Coast Guard Auxiliary's USCG Auxiliary Boating Education web page.   Classes are available for for children, for beginning boaters, and for more advanced boaters.   They range from one hour in length to 20 hours (multiple sessions).  Some are available on-line, many are instructor-based.   On-line classes are free of charge, instructor-based classes may have a small fee to cover training materials provided.

For example, Flotilla 14-08 is currently conducting a Boating Skills and Seamanship course at the New Baltimore Recreation Center.  In this class, participants learn basics of safe boating, navigation, rules of the water, weather factors, etc., as well as get a chance to talk with and ask questions of people experienced in boating on our local waterways (Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River, Detroit River, Clinton River).   We are also planning a Personal Water Craft class for this summer.  Our classes are informal, non-intimidating, instructive, and we do try to have a fun time learning!

Flotilla 14-08 conducts various boating classes throughout the year.  Some are scheduled, some may be performed on request.  Press the Upcoming Events button to see the classes we have scheduled.   If you'd like to attend a specific class, or request a class on a specific topic, or if you have questions about Coast Guard Auxiliary Public Education, please contact our Public Education (PE) officer.

A schedule of Boating Safety classes in the Great Lakes area is also available.
